Poem

Once I entered a pageant
A winner they thought I'd be
Everyone says I'm wonderful
That is everyone except me

I know that I'm no beauty
Though a Queen they thought I'd be
Everyone says I'm beautiful
That is, everyone except me

Rehearsal time was disastrous
Though great they thought I'd be
Everyone thought I'd do the best
That is, everyone except me

The MC announces the newly crowned Queen
They are surprised that it is not me
Everyone thought that I'd be Queen
That is, everyone except me

The pageant's over and home they'll go
Though shocked and disappointed they'll be
Everyone thought I lost that night
That is, everyone except me

Then overnight a change occurs
A change that none can see
Everyone sees that same old girl
That is, everyone except me

It seems as though I see myself
I care what I will be
Thank God for the Miss American Co-ed Pageant
For thanks to them now I like me
